A recent letter to the editor in the Mountain Democrat thanked Ray
(among others) for his contribution to the success of a Grizzly Flat
Fire Safe Council fund-raising event. Just another way in which
Ray participates for the betterment of the community:

EDITOR:
I would like to extend my sincere appreciation for a fund-raiser event which was held on Aug. 16. This event was our most successful so far, raising just short of $6,000. These monies are used for public education events, evacuation packets that are distributed to all residents, fire prevention news bulletins and day-to-day operating expenses.
Besides thanking our community for its support and attendance, I’d like to publicly thank the following people who made this event a tremendous success: My fellow council members for their tireless work in the months of planning along with working the event itself; District 2 supervisor candidate Ray Nutting for calling our extremely successful “live auction” (hidden talent!); the Rasbold family for the use of their property for the event; El Dorado County Fire Safe Council Executive Director Vicki Yorty for her continued support and guidance; Pioneer Fire Protection District Chief Bob Gill as one of the co-chefs; community pillar Walt Tyler as our head chef; Boo Davidson for her beautiful singing and all of our local businesses that contributed items for our raffle prizes and auctions.
I cannot express how proud I am of my fellow council members and what an honor it is to be a part of this fine organization. With every year that passes, we feel that the community of Grizzly Flat is increasingly more prepared for a wildfire. It is not if one will affect us, it is when.
