Q4: It has been stated that the State has ordered the County to accept their percentage of the population. How will this affect the current landowners who have petitioned the County to split their 10-20-40 acre parcels four ways without an impossible fee?
This is a complicated question and the answer is not a simple one. Yes we must grow with our population. The General Plan is supposed to address our needs within the context of our available land. However, the current crippling fees have caused many who have dreamed of building their own homes to put their plans on hold. Until we address the true costs of our infrastructure needs and are realistic about road development, we may continue to be in this “catch 22” position. We must find creative solutions to this complex issue.
Q5: The County and the Chambers of Commerce have a “shop El Dorado County” program called “Neighboromics.” What is your vision for El Dorado Hills’ economic development?
Neighboromics means taking local advantage of local opportunities. When I was on the Board of Supervisors I voted to approve Town Center. I thought it was the perfect place to grow our local economy in partnership with the nearby industrial park. As always, we have to be able to plan ahead with adequate space, infrastructure, and pairing of needs and use.
Q6: What will you do to ensure that El Dorado County has a reliable and sustainable revenue stream?
The County has a relatively predictable revenue stream. The problem is overspending and poor planning when the economy takes a down turn. During prosperous times we should be saving for the lean times. When I joined the Board in 1993 the County was $8,000,000. “in the hole.” I rolled up my sleeves and got to work! By the time I left we had more than $21,000,000 in the bank. Sometimes it takes tough decisions, strong leadership and thick skin to make the choices we must to take us back to prosperity. I can make those decisions, I have before.
Q7: What could you do to improve and increase communication between you (as a Supervisor) and the community?
Always being accessible to my constituents is one of my top priorities. I will be very visible in every community and will have times when you can stop in and see me without an appointment. You will always be able to reach me; I will make sure of that. I will also promise to keep you clearly informed of the many issues which affect you. You won’t be in the dark about anything. With this new age of web and blog communication we will always be in close touch. Contact me now, if you like, raynutting@raynutting.com or at home 530-644-1728.
